Black screen after nvidia update

Hi there.

I have installed kubuntu 11.10 on my old Desktop. Everything went fine. Made recommended updates from systems menu. Then after messing with nvidia drivers from "additional driver" menu, seems OK until restart.

After restart I get the usual log in menu, log in and soon after that the screen goes black.

Now I want to know,how I can open a console, and hopefully change this back.

When restarting can you go to the Grub menu? If it does not show up you can press escape during the startup and the menu should display. There you have the recovery option.
