Unable to mount location - failed to retrieve list from server

    Hi,

I have found loads of hits for this but I am still stuck!

    My network has -
laptop running Ubuntu 11.04 64 bit
desktop running Ubuntu 11.04 64 bit
    son's pc running Windows 7
    other Ubuntu machines

On my laptop I can see the windows network, drill into it and see files on my son's Windows 7 machine
On my desktop I get the 'Unable to mount location' error

I have compared the setup for Samba etc. on desktop and laptop and they look the same (but obviously can't be!)

Any ideas what the problem could be or how I can diagnose it further?

    Thanks

I have better luck with the "Connect to server" option - but that doesn't explain the differences between the laptop and desktop...

It's been awhile since I did much with Samba, so my info may be dated (or wrong).
Seems like the laptop can "find" the server whereas the desktop cannot - makes me wonder about name resolution. I'll try to find some good links.

Just tried 'Connect to Server', again that works on the laptop but not on desktop.
