Question Will a PPGA478 processor work in a PGA478 Motherboard?

Hello, Well I have a Core 2 Duo t5800 PPGA478, and I was wondering I could upgrade my laptop (PGA478 ) with this processor. So will a PPGA478 work in a PGA478 board and vise versa? I need help with this fast so at least I have the option of returning this CPU. Thank you!

It will physically fit, but without knowing the motherboard in your laptop it may not support it.

    http://download.intel.com/support/mo...m_e3504002.pdf

Mobile Board MGM45RM supports the following Intel mobile processors in the
    mPGA479 package:
    • Intel Core 2 Duo mobile processors with a 1066/800 FSB
    • Intel Celeron mobile processors with a 667 FSB

You should be good. Update the BIOS from Dell before you swap the CPU's, and make sure to clean the heat sink of old thermal compound and apply fresh. Not too much, not too little. Look up a guide on google with pics to see. YOu are doing this at your own risk. lol

Be very careful. Intel made a few sockets with 478 pins. The CPU in question is a Socket P: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_P

The Inspiron 1545 came with different CPU models which used different sockets, though most of them were Socket P.
