    no it didn't.
    first of all i don't have gedit for some reason. but i used nano command instead.
    and once again, the command sudo apt-get install build-essential didn't work

    should i install the xubuntu from the start? a different version?

    Did/do you have any connection using the Live-CD? If yes, try there:

    Code:
    sudo apt-get install linux-headers-$(uname -r) build-essential dkms
    After that copy any files from the folder /var/cache/apt/archives to an USB-stick. Boot into the "real" system, copy these files to "Downloads" and install them via:

    sudo dpkg -i ~/Downloads/*.deb

    there is/was no connection, even with the installation CD

    can't reach the wire, since it sits in a different room, and i my computer is not a laptop

    You can also try the install from #23 from the other computer with Live-CD. The installed systems are not affected from that (until you click on "install" )
