HOWTO: Configure Ubuntu 11.10 to suit your needs!

Hope this doesn't sound like spam, but I wish to make a few videos on configuring Ubuntu 11.10 to how you want it.

I will go over a different session per video, starting with Unity3d.

My current ideas on what to go over are: moving top window buttons left or right, removing overlay scroll-bar, moving the Unity panel to the bottom, getting a GNOME style menu icon in Unity, installing and changing new themes, installing screensavers, changing the login-screen, and adding a panel to the bottom of the screen.

I will also go over some apps that help out with the experience. For example: GNOME Pie.

Interfaces I also wish to go over: GNOME Shell, GNOME 3's Fallback, and MATE.

Also explaining bugs and how to work around them.

So, what I would really like to know is: What do you guys want me to go over? What would you like to change and/or see?

Please post a comment either here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jD3McQ5bRyc

    Or as a response below.

Hope I help out as many as I can! ^_^"

    UPDATE: First video is up!

Going over Unity3d, then showing how to get custom themes and fonts as well as a few other things.

Next video: Unity2d, then apps that work for both sides.
    Followed by screensavers.

What else should I go over? Leave a comment either below as a reply, or on the video itself!

    Hope this helps everyone out!

Um... did you even read the thread before posting?

I think the video tutorials are a great idea for people new to Ubuntu or Unity.

If you are a member of Reddit, you might want to put this under Linuxfornoobs.

It seems strange to me to take the best Ubuntu version yet, 11.04 and strip most of the customization out, then change the interface most of us have come to love, to one that is much less covenient. I spent far too much time trying to figure out how to get 11.10 to look and function like 11,04.

Gnome 3 is not an improvement, in my opinion, but a pain to work with.

    90% Ubuntu user.

I agree with you in some areas. For example: I liked the dash button better at the top, and all the theme customizations that were available.

But the reason Mark Shuttleworth said to keep Unity at the left was to keep it by the dash button. Seeing as it is now moved onto the Unity bar itself, tells me he might be giving it the ability to move later on.

As far as themes, that is GNOME's fault. GNOME 2 and GTK2 themes are almost completely gone now.

Unity has decided to come out when GNOME is changing... not really the best time.

As far as GNOME shell goes though, it is more customizable than Unity for those who know how. And I will be going over that UI after the one I'm about to start recording on.
