Red face x2x not working from xubuntu 12.04 to xubuntu 10.04

Two laptops 1 with xubuntu 12.04 on it, other with xubuntu 10.04 on it

10.04 has x2x installed, ssh access

    Command from 12.04 machine:

    ssh -X username@192.168.1.67 -C "x2x -east -to :0

Normally works perfectly from xubuntu 10.04 to 10.04 (mouse pointer drifts across, works from desktop to desktop (what x2x is for)).

From xubuntu 12.04 to xubuntu 10.04:

The mouse pointer moves on the 10.04 machine (partially works), but the pointer is trapped at the very left of the screen - locked into the left margin - can't drift it across (useless).

No idea what it is. The 12.04 machine has all updates installed. The machine running 12.04 is a Dell inspiron M5010 using the ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX graphics driver.
