Re: Help me make my webcam working

    Code:
    sudo modprobe uvcvideo quirks=64
Try it like this. I have the same webcam, and this is the most usable it gets. I hope you don't like using Cheese. It worked perfectly on 32-bit Ubuntu, but not 64-bit for some reason.

Nope, I found it through trial and error, using the 2^n sequence of numbers. I'm just happy I can do hangouts and video chat on Google+. I haven't tested Skype yet, but I think it will work for that too.

After I type-in this command I receive the following message: WARNING: All config files need .conf: /etc/modprobe.d/options, it will be ignored in a future release.

My camera is not working in both Cheese and Skype. When I start my webcam in these applications it just shots the first frame of the image and that's it. This was possible after I did "options uvcvideo quirks=16" on December 15 last year. Since then I couldn't do anything.

By the way, I work in Ubuntu 11.10, 64 bit.

Don't want to impose on this thread too much, but I am seeking resolution for the same issue with the same camera running 10.04.

SO I will be checking back in to see how this all turns out.

Would like to do some G+ hangouts:

Re: Help me make my webcam working

Just in case..Make sure your cam is directly plugged into USB2 port.
    The USB id
0ac8:3420 Venus USB 2.0 Camera (Tevion MD 85872 and Minoru3D) Vimicro
is listed as supported with the footnote that:
Resolutions below 640x480 might only work at the full 30fps frame rate.
    http://www.ideasonboard.org/uvc/#footnote-8

Not sure it will help you or me but from the above website...
To increase the debug info in system log:
    $ sudo echo 0xffff > /sys/module/uvcvideo/parameters/trace

run qv4l2, guvcview and luvcview for a couple of seconds..

    Stop the debug stuff:
    $ sudo echo 0 > /sys/module/uvcvideo/parameters/trace

    Save the syslog stuff:
    dmesg > uvcvideo-dmesg.log

You could try building the latest driver from linuxtv.org..

You will find the UVC quirks listed in uvc/uvcvideo.h (kernel <=2.6.42) or linux/uvcvideo.h..

Re: Help me make my webcam working

taking a cue from the post above, I opened Cheese and change the resolution to 320X240 and it works perfectly...... for Cheese.

Anywhere else that doesn't really give the option to adjust the resolution is still a problem.....

Does Ubuntu have something like Media Encoder or even Webcam max that will let you adjust you camera settings for broadcasting?

    qv4l2, guvcview and luvcview

Have only used guvcview, it seems to be able to configure all possible settings on my webcam..
    I un-installed cheese long ago...

Not sure what you mean by broadcasting.
You can use ffmpeg to capture from v4l2 & believe you can stream the output.
    (no actual example)
    http://ffmpeg.org/ffmpeg.html#toc-vi...d-video4linux2
    ffmpeg -f video4linux2 -i /dev/video0 out.mpeg

Re: Help me make my webcam working

ok this is what worked for me.

    I downloaded webcam studio.

it recognized the Venus 2.0 stuff.

It set the camera to 320X240 @ 15FPS

Adjusting the settings will shut the program down.

I can do all the online streaming stuff now (Ustream, Stickam Justin TV, and Google Hangouts)

Still cannot use for Skype, but I don't really care about that.

    Who's that handsome dude..

I think skype needs the exported variable LD_PRELOAD library trick so it does not use the default video4linux2 api library.
