Exactly what I was looking for since moving to Kubuntu Oneiric. Thanks, man!
thanks & good informative post.
any further updates to this post, any extra tweaks available? is there to switch off HHD when not in use or at idle?
Thanks for this. I like it when people don't just give you a recipe to follow blindly, but actually explain the reason behind each step. I've learned some cool things.
I kept noticing some choppiness (nothing serious, but still) on my system that even disabling "desktop effects" altogether didn't seem to help. Now, with your tips, I can see that the animations were to blame for that and, after disabling them, everything runs smoothly even with some nice effects enabled.
I get tempted to try it again, do you think it runs on my old desktop (see signature). If I install the desktop, can I delete it again with all the corresponding applications or is it safer to dual boot?
Desktop: P-IV 3.2gHz, RAM= 1.5GB, Disk=80GB+500GB, LCD=22", Bought 2012 $90
File Server: P-III 650mHz, RAM = 384MB, Disks 240 + 300GB, Bought 2005 $60
File Server HP Vectra VL8i SFF, 2 cables connected: Ethernet and Power
Thanks you! I bookmarked this page! Just one question though I think it is silly Will this tweaks applicable for the final release of kubuntu 12.04 LTS??
Thank you.
OT: Where's the thank button anw?
Thank you for the very helpful info. Some of it I knew, but it was good to have a more complete look at my system (at a time when I was just about to distro hop, again).
