This thread has nothing to do with this one. The other thread for suggestions and idea. This one is for sharing Testing Results with everyone over here. Please don't get confused.

    Hi everyone,

One day or less to go for the first Alpha Release of Lubuntu 12.04.

    From Julien Lavergne (Lubuntu Developer)

    Hi,

The 1st Alpha of Lubuntu 12.04 is planned for Thurday. We started the
ISO testing for Alpha 1, so if you want to help, you can join the
    testing process

If you know how to use a virtual machine (Virtualbox) and how to install
Lubuntu, you can help ! You can follow the steps on this wiki page :
    https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/ISO/Procedures .

We uses a new ISO tracker to collect the results : http://91.189.93.73 .
There are 4 ISOs that you can test : Live CD (Desktop) and Alternate
ISO, both on i386 and amd64. All need to be tested, to be able to
    publish an Alpha 1.

To be short, just download the ISO, run it into VirtualBox, check the
testcase on the page of the ISO, and report the result.

You don't need any technical knowledge, and if you have questions, you
can ask on #lubuntu or #ubuntu-testing.

    Thanks in advance !

    Regards,
    Julien Lavergne
I asked him some Qs and here is the answers:

I was unable to open this: http://91.189.93.73
Site is blocked by my ISP and anyway it doesn't seem a valid IP address anyway.
Ah but it's temporaly, the site should be available on a real DNS adress for Alpha 2 ( http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/). Still, the ISOs are available in http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/lubuntu/daily-live/current/ is people just want to have a look.

Another thing: I understand testing in Virtual Machines (VirtualBox) is SAFE but will that be the same as testing on real installation?
Not exactly, because the hardware on the virtual machine is generic. You can test many things on a vm, but it's nice to test it also on a real hardware.

However, for Alpha 1, it's not important to test it on real hardware. It's still very early in the cycle. It's more critical for Beta ISO for example.

    Regards,
What do I have to do?
ALL what you need to do is follow the instructions on the above Email from Julien and share your feedback and/or your test results with everyone here. This thread will be active from 1st of Dec, 2011 until the final release day (26th of April, 2012).

I was trying to help with ISO testing Lubuntu. I got stuck with 64 bit desktop ISO no booting in Virtualbox. It hangs at either Checking battery state or trying to start CUPS. Im sure Im missing something silly, but stuck here for now.

Ubuntu user since Jaunty but first time enthusiastic tester, with quite some spare time in my hands. Help/directions much appreciated.

    Cheers

    Hi,

If you are having problems booting Lubuntu 12.04 (by the way, the Alpha 1 release is not yet available) then I'd suggest:

    1- Checking MD5SUM
2- Burn the LiveCD using low speed (4x or 8x) OR try to create LiveUSB using UNetbootin.

Unhappy Re: Lubuntu 12.04 Testing - From Alpha1 until The Final Release

Alpha 1 CD live O.K. Tried installing and running: black screen. No desktop. Ctrl-Alt-F1 gets command line O.K.

This is Thinkpad T40 runs Lubuntu Pangolin fine as upgraded from Ocelot. ATI Radeon mobility 7500 I think.

Tried stopping and starting lightdm. No go on the desktop.

Tried startx, complained it couldn't find fglrx. It's there, same place as in the upgrade.

Tried nomodeset on linux line at boot. No help.

Tried apt-get update & apt-get upgrade. No help.

Looked on the Pangolin forum there's a couple things to try. Haven't looked at launchpad bugs yet, too late tonight.

Unhappy Re: Lubuntu 12.04 Testing - From Alpha1 until The Final Release

Alpha 1 new install from daily build, updated, still black screen.
It will run command line from Ctrl-Alt-F1.
No way to report ubuntu-bug because ubuntu-bug depends on a running desktop. Of course the bug is the desktop doesn't run.
Tried driver "vesa" and driver "ati" no luck.
ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility M7 LW [Radeon Mobility 7500]
It does display briefly the Lubuntu start screen while booting up.
It does display the Lubuntu screen when shutting down.

This is from another partition, an Ocelot install upgraded to precise.

@jerrylamos, you can use apport from the command line. Have a look at this wiki page, and scroll down to TIps and tricks.

Followed your pointer and filed bug #899341. Trying to add comment with attachnment .xsession-errors but launchpad isn't doing "Post Comment". Oops, xsession-errors is not filed as readable. Fixed that. Also sent Xorg.0.log.

    Thanks, Jerry

Nice one jerrylamos. I wasnt sure if I was doing everything right in Virtualbox. I dont have an extra machine to test this, and am a newbie to Ubuntu testing. So I was holding back on creating a bug.

However I was able to get one good fresh install of Lubuntu 12.04 on a VM. I am not able to reproduce that!

Ok I am a bit all over the place with lubuntu now. I had precise-desktop-amd64.iso from 20111129, which I was trying to use for ISO testing.

Now I was trying to zsync with alpha1, and it errors out.

    shiva@Arrakis:~/Downloads$ zsync http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/lubuntu/re...ktop-amd64.iso
    -------------------- 0.0% 11.3 kBps
    -------------------- 3.2% 11.3 kBps TA
    #------------------- 8.7% 7.2 kBps ETA
    ##------------------ 12.6% 10.2 kBps TA
    #######------------- 35.8% 7.2 kBps ETA
    #################### 100.0% 366.0 kBps DONE

Bad line - not a zsync file? "3퐐3"

You have to add .zsync to the end of your command eg:

    zsync http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/lubuntu/re...md64.iso.zsync
