Why do you say that? I see the same messages in your xorg.conf saying that it is disabled.

Just remove any references to 1024x768 from your xorg.conf. If you don't have any then set the DefaultDepth in the screen section to 16.

What we are trying to do with this is stop the "static buffer allocation" warning in your Xorg.0.log.

I don't know if the mode of your framebuffer effects the mode of the xorg.conf. We'll have to see about that....don't worry about this for the moment - is just my ramblings!

also it is booting faster slightly which is good
I think you need to get your stop watch out!

Can you add uninorth-agp and agpgart into your /etc/initramfs-tools/modules and re-run the "sudo update-initramfs -u" command please? Put them in the order I said to before.

Following a reboot can we have the output of "dmesg | grep drm" and "dmesg | grep agp" please?

Success will be when we get a load of drm messages in your Xorg.0.log and much higher FPS when you run glxgears. Final thing, can we have the output of Xorg.0.log after all the new changes? Thanks

so i set DefaultDepth to 16 because of no 1024x768 but that froze my computer up

also the adding of those two lines froze my computer had to go into single user mode with each to get rid of them

i timed 1:09 for a startup time with neither of these

    Well that is disappointing.

Searching around on this it seems DRI has been problematic with the r128 for a long time. I'm not entirely convinced anybody has got it fully working at the moment. In a statement of arrogance that will amuse or maybe make some people cringe: Let's assume that everything everbody has done with the r128 has been wrong so far.

Certainly that xorg.conf that we downloaded is a load of pap. That Hsync range 60-60 is stopping you changing resolution. That is why, I think, you are stuck on 1024x768. If you look at the lubuntu instructions there are directions for how to find the correct values for your monitor. I would do this or setup modelines for the resolutions you want. Then you can experiment with changing modes.

I would remove r128 from the /etc/initramfs-tools/modules file. I don't think it should be loaded so soon. It goes against the documented advice. I would also remove it from the /etc/modules file.

Does is crash if you have

    Code:
    uninorth-agp
    agpgart
(and no r128) listed in both the /etc/initramfs-tools/modules and /etc/modules files? Remember to run the "sudo update-initramfs -u" for changes to take effect.

Can we have the output of "dmesg | grep drm", "dmesg | grep agp" and "dmesg | grep r128" please?

If it does crash is it possible to see the xorg log file from the crash?

Re: iMac g3 with Rage 128 gives frame buffer error (2011)

i tried the ddcprobe command from the lubuntu instructions to change the frequency rates but it came up with this error
    Code:
    Framebuffer ioctl failed. Exiting.
    VESA BIOS Extensions not detected.
on the other hand i went on and it didnt crash at all just the same as always

    here are the dmesg outputs
    Code:
    adminubuntu@iMacUbuntu:~$ dmesg | grep drm
    adminubuntu@iMacUbuntu:~$ dmesg | grep agp

    adminubuntu@iMacUbuntu:~$ dmesg | grep r128

Oh, maybe it doesn't work on powerpc? Did you run it with sudo?

What about finding the modelines instead? Have you tried that? Try and get it working so that you can change resolutions.

Your dmesg's are interesting - no drm stuff now so maybe we do have prod r128 at some point?

Re: iMac g3 with Rage 128 gives frame buffer error (2011)

so i did sudo ddcprobe and that gave me the output i wanted but when i went into xorg.conf the refresh rates where the same so i dont know what to do on that path

for modelines i don't know what i should type in to get the modeline because the one on the lubuntu instructions is for your ibook should i try crt 800 600 or crt 1024 768 or is it not crt i have no clue
