    Re: Grub problems

    Hi sarum.

About your results .txt file, could you open it in a text editor select everything in it and COPY then in a NEW REPLY hit the # at the top of the message window, you will see something like this {CODE} {/CODE}. Paste the whole lot between those tags then hit Submit reply. This really will make the results easier to read.

    Thank you.

    Re: Grub problems

It appears you have a combination of Grub legacy and Grub 2. We'll know more once we see the contents of RESULTS.txt

My recommendation will probably be to chroot the LiveCD into your Lucid partition, purge grub (Grub Legacy) and grub-pc (Grub 2) and then reinstall Grub 2.

If you want to get a head start on this, the link is "Chroot" in my signature line. You might also want to take a look at the 'Boot Repair' link - that GUI app may be able to fix things for you - with the added benefit that it can run the boot info script from within the program.

For specifics we'll take a look at the information you post from home.
    Back to Xorg...

    Retired.

    Re: Grub problems

Looking at your RESULTS.txt makes my head hurt.

Seriously though, I don't know enough about Grub legacy to really offer advice on what needs to be done to boot it.

I can give you instructions on how to get rid of Grub legacy on the sda drive and install Grub 2, but that's about all I can offer. I'd need confirmation that sda1 is your Lucid installation before giving you the commands.

The general steps would be to boot your LiveCD, mount your Lucid partition, mount certain system files, then chroot into the real Ubuntu partition. Next you would confirm you still have an Internet connection and then purge grub/grub2 and reinstall grub 2.

Maybe someone familiar enough with Grub legacy will provide an answer. If you can get it to boot from your current grub menu I would still recommend using only Grub 2, but the steps to accomplish it would be much easier.
    Back to Xorg...

PLEASE hurt your head no more!
I down loaded the Boot Repair thing and after what seemed like forever - it was mended.
None of you can know how grateful I am. I've a load of stuff on the hard drive and, yes, I've a backup, but of a few weeks ago. Thankyou thankyou thankyou, sarum
