How do I make a virtual desktop in the cloud?

Hi,
How do I create my desktop in the cloud so I can just log in to a browser and do my work when I am on the go? Is this possible? Also I want to be able to save things to my desktop at server to server speed not my internet connection speed. Is this also possible?

Any input much appreciated.
