    Gnome shell disappears

    sometimes gnome shell uninstalls by itself and i have to re-install it(11.10). Any ideas, anyone?

    The Gnome people don't admit it but Gnome 3 is a beta release and not a final product.

    Apart from this, it's obvious that Canonical didn't make a great effort to incorporate Gnome 3 to Ubuntu, so the integration to the OS is minimal.

    Means proceed at your own risk. If you like to play with something you can use Gnome, if you like to don't have surprises use Unity.... even accepting some small risks.

    No , the shell has been very stable since installation for me , everything has worked out of the box since day one . I have never heard of any program un-installing it's self . Is it crashing or disappearing from the list of installed programs ?

    When Gnome decides to designate the current version of the shell as a beta I will consider it as such .

    This happened to another user and it was due to the Ubuntu installation being corrupt rather than a shell problem . In that case an upgrade was being used and that issue was resolved by doing a clean installation of Ubuntu .
