Hi Ubuntu,

using a QNAP TS-459 Pro II on which all our local pcs running on ubuntu access their files, I have been wondering how to proceed if i want to access the same shared files online. I have been advised that VPN is the way. I have a simple normal netgear modem router which offers remote access and ddns. I have also been advised that it should support ssl-vpn firewall. Does this mean i need to buy a new router ?

Also we don't have a fixed IP, it changes constantly, is there a technique or a way my router could communicate maybe in a protected area on a website where you login what its current IP is in order to access it ?

The QNAP itself proposes WEBDAV but in order to connect to it you need to know the IP address...

I am a bit lost on this subject, will appreciate your input.

Greetings from summer temperatures,
Dietmar
