audio not working after running update manager

Hello,

After installing the entire list of updates suggested by the "Update Manager" the audio doesn't work anymore. Both, speakers and output line.

From my understanding the audio card and driver are both installed and are recognized. The settings in alsamixer should be fine: all values (except for "beep") are 100.

I tried to follow most of the instructions on the following guide:

no success


Any suggestions would be welcome


Laptop: Dell Mini 9
Ubuntu: 10.04

have you checked the settings in the sound preferences, especially around the profile for the hardware? If i change mine from their current setting, i get no sound at all. Just an idea.
