Spilled the Beans
Im on a MBP Lion.2 . using virtualbox 4.1.4. ubuntu 11.04. i try opening ANYTHING, and the bar down the side tells me its open, but no windows show up. if i change the screen size however, a random box in the window seems to glitch out. tried it on a fresh install too (with virtual box guest additions)

So you're having trouble with the Ubuntu only inside of the virtual box? What you describe sounds like a graphics card problem. Can you adjust the virtual BIOS inside of the VM?
