I think you might also need the gnome activity journal.

I am having the same issue. Anyone find a fix yet? I can't seem to find one. Not really digging not being able to update my system.

Personally, I prefer the quick and dirty method for clearing the history.

cd ~/.local/share/zeitgeist
rm activity.sqlite

Reboot

[soryu]

installed zeitgeist actvity manager.
installed gnome activity manager.


cleared history in both and stopped logging.
activity still shown in unity "recent"

rebooting now.
