    Building new PC: Suggestions?

I'm getting ready to order parts to build a new PC and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for hardware. I haven't built one in a few years and am not very familiar with the current generation of hardware. My major concern is that I want to avoid any components that have known compatibility or performance issues with Linux, so if you know of any please let me know what NOT to get as well. I plan on getting either an i5 or i7 CPU. I will probably reuse my NVidia 8800GTX from my current rig but the rest of the components I'm still trying to decide on. I'm not sure about getting an SSD just yet (mainly because of the price, but I'm also unsure about compatibility/stability with Linux). I would like to have a hardware or software RAID1. I'm mainly just looking for general pointers here since I haven't built (or ran Linux on) a PC with anything newer than a P4.

    CPU: Core I7.
Mobo: a good ASUS ATX mobo that will work with the Core I7.
    Optical drive: Blu-ray burner.
    Hard drive: 1Tb.
    Ram: 8Gb.
    Case: nice clear tower case.
Sound card: A nice sound card that will support all the major surround sound formats.
Video card: A nice hi-def video card.
    OS: Either Fedora 15, Ubuntu 11, Crunchbang 10, Debian 6, or PC-BSD 8.
    Monitor: 34" Bravia HDTV.
Speakers: At least a 5.1 ch home theatre sound system.

    That enough for 'ya? XD

    Re: Building new PC: Suggestions?

That's about what I had in mind. Only I will probably go with two 2TB HDs and probably just stick with the on board sound card. It's not an HTPC, and I have another machine set up as one in the living room. This is going to be my main Linux PC.

So, does anyone know of any specific hardware that's not compatible (or just buggy) when it comes to running Linux on the current gen of hardware? I'm going to stick with the 32bit version, even if all my hardware can support 64bit.
