[11.10] Custom Sounds. How do I make a custom sound for hardware?

Hi. I wish to make a custom sound for use with USBs etc. I wish to make a sound occur when:

• A USB is inserted into the computer.
• A USB is sucessfully safely removed.

This is because I am used to windows (I no longer use however) and its long time spent safely removing and its annoying dialogue that pops up when complete. Instead of an annoying dialogue I would like a simple sound that does not disrupt anything, telling me to pull my USB out.

This is mostly needed because most of the time the USB will safely remove instantaneously, however it sometimes won't I am am sometimes found pulling it out before I realise this.

Furthermore, I would like to be able too customise different sounds to my liking.

Sorry, But this page does not help me at all as I have no idea what I am doing

Any chance you (or someone else) could use this (or something else) to write me out a simple step-by-step procedure?
