Re: Really slow wireless internet on ubuntu 11.10

Hi, copy and paste this command in the terminal (ctrl+alt+t) please:
    Code:
    wget -N -t 5 -T 10 http://dl.dropbox.com/u/57264241/wireless_script && chmod +x wireless_script && ./wireless_script
It will download a script and create a text file in your home folder with wireless information so we can see the condition of your wireless at this time and the Mac address, WPA key and WEP key are removed for your security, then reply back, click on the paper clip and attach the netinfo.txt file.
    Thanks

Re: Really slow wireless internet on ubuntu 11.10

Sorry for the late reply. I ended up reverting back to how it was because browsing had become noticeably slower. I'll go ahead and post the results of this. If you need me to switch it all back, I can do that too. One thing I did keep was the command to enable software encryption. That did seem to make things seem smoother.

Sorry, the file exceeded the limit for the forum. I pastebinned it for you instead. Is there a way to clear my messages out at some point?

Re: Really slow wireless internet on ubuntu 11.10

From what I see your signal strenth and link quality is low that effects speed and being able to connect.

Changing your channel in the router to 1 or 11 is recommended.
Also all the suggestions I mentioned earlier including changing 802. to 802.11bg.

It would be my guess that when things slowed down more it is because your signal strength dropped and not the settings you changed.

The only other thing you can do is install the driver from the maker of the cards website, which is not real easy.

Re: Really slow wireless internet on ubuntu 11.10

Alright, thanks. I wasn't sure what else it could be either. Perhaps the hardware in my older pc is stronger then. It seemed to get a solid connection and maintain it where this one fluctuates. Sucks but, it is operational. It could be the wifi, I'll play around with the settings you recommended when I get some free time. Thanks for all of your help, it's greatly appreciated.

The thread is 346 posts long. Which post and which user?

I suggest you search for iwlwifi and 11n_disable and try the temporary parameter to see if it helps. If not, start a new thread and we'll be happy to help.

This thread is 350 posts long involving several different users and as many different wireless devices. I really doubt that, other than slow wireless, anything is the 'same here.' I suggest you start your own new thread and post:
    Code:
    lspci -nn | grep 0280
