    My Geeky Charging Hub

Before I was using my cable box and usb hub but it was very disorganized and the cables where everywhere. Inspired by an article from lifehacker where someone built a charging hub from parts at ikea I decided I wanted to do something like that but coooler and geekier. So I looked around the house for stuff I had on hand. I found an old bricked wrt54g router I had on hand. So I popped it open pryed the main board off and fed the cables out of the back where ethernet ports where. I then plugged the power supply into a wall charger that came with my phone. Works great. What do you guys think?

Love it, really good idea. Nothing worse than 5 different chargers that all work by usb anyway.......think i might make my own.....I even have that exact router kicking around doing nothing.

its a pretty ugly case, but the idea is something ive been meaning to do for a while now. wouldn't a powered usb hub do the job?

i made a nice case a few months ago by painting the inside of a clear acrylic box. some external hdd or headphone amp enclosures would also make nice cases but i suppose there's something pretty cool about the ugly old wrt54g

yeah a powered usb hub would do the job. It's just that the cable for my hub is a propietary connection and the cable was too long. Basically the box acts as a cable management solution. if i could find a decent one i would get a wooden shoe rack or something and mount a usb hub on the back like http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2 and drill a hole for a cable in the back of each slot.
