Volume, pause/play, and ffw/rw keys not working on HP-dv7-4270us

I recently switched to KDE, and everthing is working fine except for the volume buttons, mute, ffw/rw, and pause/play keys. They're on the function keys, and normally you have to hold down another "fn" key at the bottom to use the function key. Thesee keys are the only way to control volume and mute. I am running Kubuntu 11.10 64bit.

In what application are you trying to use them? Amarok (default KDE player)?

It doesn't matter what application it is. It used to just adjust the system volume across all applications, now it doesn't. The pause/play and ffw/rw doesn't work on Rhythmbox, which is what I usually use.

Did this occur recently or was it always this way? Also check your keyboard settings. Type in the search bar and see what your keybinds are. My hp dm1z worked out of the box with the volume and play functions. I have it set to generic 101-key PC btw!
