Re: E:Malformed line 52 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list (URI), E:The list of sou
Looks like you've added something to line 52 of the file '/etc/apt/sources.list' that isn't formed correctly.
Open up that file as root (put this into the terminal):
There's a mistake on or around line 52. All lines must start with "deb", "deb-src" or "#". If you can't see the problem, then copy and paste the contents of the file into a message here and we'll take a look at it.
gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
If you remove the offending line, you need to save your changes by clicking the Save button at the top of the window and then running this terminal command:
Then everything will work again properly, assuming the bad line has been removed.
sudo apt-get update
In future, if you want to add repositories to your system, go into Software Center. Go to the Edit menu and then Software Sources. Use this program to add repositories - it doesn't let you add any malformed lines.
I try to treat the cause, not the symptom. I avoid the terminal in instructions, unless it's easier or necessary. My instructions will work within the Ubuntu system, instead of breaking or subverting it. Those are the three guarantees to the helpee.
