i would also be interested if it is possible to use this camcorder from ubuntu
i own one of these accompanied by a heap of unprocessed material on miniDV tape, and i wouldn't want to install windows again, if it is not necessary
back when i've been running windows, i was using the firewire card packaged with the cam to interface with it (no usb, only IEEE 1394 connector&cable) using some cyberlink video editing software also bundled with the device
it would be great if someone could help me make it work in ubuntu (preferably in Lucid or any later stable release, but i would be grateful for any (useful/reasonable) suggestion)
just remembered this thread and thought that i share that i've found kino and dvgrab from http://www.kinodv.org/ a long while ago and they solved all my problems
(they are also available in the ubuntu repositories)
