    Gnome-open command

    Hello, I am new on ubuntu and am still trying to figure my way around it. I am running ubuntu 10.10 Maverick and have a couple of pressing issues at hand. First off and foremost, when I open my terminal and try to open a directory in a window using the gnome-open command, my terminal when it executes the command opens up another terminal. I have Kde 4.5 (I think) as well as gnome 2.4 and what happens is that the gnome-open command opens the Kde based terminal Konsole. I also use the gnomenu in place of the default menu, and have noticed that when I try to open the "Pictures", "Downloads", "Music", "Videos" or "Ubuntu One" folders I get the Konsole instead. It seems my gnome-open command has somehow been corrupted although it still works fine when I'm opening actual files ie. text files, word documents, pdf documents etc.

    Secondly, my Eclipse is failing to startup and when I try to run it through the terminal I get this error:
    "The program 'Eclipse' received an X Window System error.
    This probably reflects a bug in the program.
    The error was 'BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)'.
    (Details: serial 8932 error_code 8 request_code 149 minor_code 4)
    (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
    that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
    To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
    option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
    backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)"

    Please can you help me! I do not know what to do, if necessary I'll end up uninstalling eclipse completely as I also have netbeans which is currently working fine. In addition I have gnu emacs which is also giving me similar problems. When I try to run it through terminal I get this output:
    "progname=emacs; RGBA=on

    If anyone can help me and advise me on what to do to fix these bugs I would really appreciate it. I am very enthusiastic about the fixing these problems at any cost and would only resort to removing any programs that give me problems as a losing choice. I am very new to programming let alone to the linux system but I am willing to try out any solutions you offer regardless of how complicated they may just as long as you explain to me what I'll be doing. Thank you.

    Regarding Eclipse, I had a bunch of problems with Eclipse installed from the repo, but just downloading and extracting to home somewhere always worked (as long as Java was properly installed). If you installed from the repo, try the alternative.

    Re: Gnome-open command

    I installed eclipse from the website and it was working fine until recently, I might have to uninstall it

    By the way, here is the terminal output I get when I try to open a folder with terminal:
    orwell@ubuntu:~$ gnome-open Desktop
    orwell@ubuntu:~$

    `menu_proxy_module_load': konsole: undefined symbol: menu_proxy_module_load

    `menu_proxy_module_load': konsole: undefined symbol: menu_proxy_module_load

    Re: Gnome-open command

    I have found a solution for the problem I was having with opening my folders. I had somehow managed to set the default action for folders to be to launch a terminal, hence I couldn't open the folders directly or with gnome-open unless I used the nautilus command which corresponds the file manager I use. Fortunately for me I have gnome as well as kde installed on my ubuntu therefore I when I logged in via kde, the cause of the problem became obvious and I right clicked on one of the folders and selected open with then added the command nautilus. So that problem should be fixed now.
    I am however still trying to solve problems for eclipse and gnu-emacs, if there are any threads or links to other sides which address these issues please may you link me.
    Thank you.
