I really want all my friends to use Lubuntu on their children computer, so I need a pretty user friendly parental control tool.

This is the only way for the parents to be able to protect the young minds of their children in Internet. Otherwise it would be the kids who take control of their parents!!!

Thank you again. Let's see if we can find a solution.
    You most welcome
So, did you take a look at the links/suggestions in this thread?

I actually disagree with you about what you mentioned (bold red).
The best parental control is YOU. As long as you keep monitoring your kids, you are taking the control over them. Yes, I understand that these programs come in handy but still just my personal opinion.

will help you to search for other options if the listed options above didn't help much.

    Hi again:

amjjawad: what can I say? YOU are right. Shame on me... I very often say the same words to other parents!

Regarding to your other question the answer is no. Unfortunately I have been too busy preparing for the #LSWC11 conference.

    Maybe during the course of this week! ;

    Hi,

Don't worry about it ... people must remind each other from time to time ... this life and this is how we must support each other ... this is one of the things I do believe in

    I wish I could attend that but ... it's a long story.

I am new to this forum, but so happy to join you!

I have just installed Lubuntu 11.04 in my old PC and yeah it rocks! I have even wrote a blog about it (in spanish, sorry): http://www.aratic.es/wordpress/como-...con-lubuntu-i/

Uptadating to 11.10 was a bit boring because too many download breaks, but it is done right now.

BUT what I would like to ask you all is: have you tried to start parental control program NANNY? Console doesn't even show up.

Thank you in advance for your answer and regards,

    Vicente

OP mentioned Scrubit, I have used OpenDNS' free solution for quite a few years with great success.

The names and IP addresses of sites change daily; using a third party service like this keeps it updated up in the cloud. You have a dashboard and make the changes you want, then let it work for you.

All done at the router, no messing with various systems.
The future will soon be a thing of the past.

    Re: Nanny Parental Controls

This may come a bit late, but I got this from a post here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nanny/+bug/877318

Gnome Nanny seems to be failing because it requires gdm. To get Nanny running in Lubuntu, install gdm in the terminal:
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install gdm
When presented with the option for configuration, go ahead and stick with lxdm.

This seems to have let it run on my installation this morning.
