Should I move Ubuntu 11.10 to another HD?

Having just solved the problem of not being able to Boot into Ubuntu (turned out to just be a bad BIOS battery) I would still like to move Ubuntu to a different HD from the one where I keep my Back In Time backups. To me, this seems to be a better insurance against HD failure than having the OS and the backups on one physical HD.

When I installed Ubuntu 11.10 using the default settings, it only offered to put it on my third HD, which is where I already had my Back In Time backups. This puzzles me as to why it did not give the option of either of the other two HD's.

If you want to control the location of the installation and your home partitions, you need to choose a manual set-up. Don't use the defaults.

Thanks for the input. You are correct that I should not use the defaults. In one's haste it is all too easy to take the short road.

However, in the interim I tried a different approach. Instead of moving the OS, I moved the Back in Time backup location to another drive. That was an easy way to separate the two that had escaped me before.
