Gfx problem

Hey guys

Just bought a new laptop today installed 11.04 natty (didn't install 11.10 as I don't like the unity interface) Basically all went very smooth and everything works out of the box the only problem I have is the gfx is laggy when watching a movie in full screen and also when i play a game i get a gigantic red number one in the top left of the screen. Any help or advice would be fantastic as so far this laptop is a pleasure to use with my fave OS.

(I'm still a newb so not really got much terminal experience)

(also will putting 11.10 solve my problem?)

Laptop is Acer aspire 5551

3gb ram

athlon 64x2

320gb hdd

radeon hd 4200.
