    Once you "tick" Canonical Partner, Close, Reload Synaptic and type "Skype".

    It's very easy

    I think a smaller distro (Puppy?) and as much memory as the computer allows will fix the slowness. Unity, watching movies and listening to music is heavy on memory. One at a time, maybe, but not two together. 512 g of ram is very little in today's world. Ubuntu isn't for the older, less powerful desktop anymore.
