But you can see if the the dsdt was loaded by grub because it probably has a different compiler version and different addresses listed.
Stupid me just noticed that the lockups this time have left an oops in syslog. It seems I fell into the wireless driver lockup without noticing. Sorry for the noise.

I've just started to use it with fixed DSDT, so it's to soon to report if it helps or not.

It just died again... so at least for me DSDT fix doesn't help :/

I'll try with the newest 3.3 version (rc2 right now).

3 hours without shutdown with the following kernel commandline:

    BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.3.0-rc2-fenio root=UUID=cac4d863-ed59-4b5e-a108-6eb101efde27 ro i915.powersave=1 i915.semaphores=1 i915.i915_enable_rc6=1 elevator=noop quiet splash vt.handoff=7

Much better than on 3.2.x so far.

Re: Ubunutu and the asus zenbook (UX31)

    To everyone reporting sudden shutdowns:
Do you always check the log files? Just to make sure that the sudden shutdowns are really "sudden" in the sense of "nothing is in the log files". An error in the asix ethernet module has been fixed (in 3.2.1) that caused crashes, but the ath9k module still seems to be problematic. At least I had several ath9k crashes so far and they're also reported regularly by other users.

I think there are several types of crashes and we should try to tell them apart. Even those crashes where nothing appears in the log could have different causes, and the fixed DSDT may fix only one of them. And maybe not everyone has all types of crashes (e.g. different usage pattern, slightly different hardware or kernel options, connected devices like external monitor)... That would explain the many different reports ranging from "crashing several times a day" over "only two times a week" to "none".

So, my request is, if you report a crash, please supply the following information (even if you mentioned it some posts before, it's hard to keep track ):
    • kernel (vanilla / Ubuntu patches / ..., exact version number)
    • kernel options
    • do you use the fixed DSDT?
    • is there something in the logs?
    • ath9k error in the logs: anything special like many connections, download running, weak signal, ...?
    • no error in the logs: external monitor connected (VGA or HDMI)?
    • running on battery or not?
    • and if possible: how often do you get a crash with this configuration? (makes only sense if you're using the laptop several hours a day...)

    Regards
    Aaron

Maybe it would be a good idea to open another thread only for crash reports, where all reports get collected.
It would be easier to keep track this way...
