Re: Ubunutu and the asus zenbook (UX31)

Hello.. I just got the two finger scroll working on my sentelic touchpad.

    Thanks to https://github.com/saaros/sentelic and https://github.com/thaelim/sentelic

    Update:
I forgot to tell that these drivers does not work if you have disabled the "tap to click" option.
    echo -n 0x90 0x80 > /sys/devices/platform/i8042/serio4/setreg
    echo -n c > /sys/devices/platform/i8042/serio4/flags

    Update2:
    Thanks to https://github.com/wulczer/sentelic/...n-pad-click-v2
To disable tap to click with these drivers this can be used.
    echo -n c > /sys/devices/platform/i8042/serio4/flags

    linus git 3.2-rc7 gnome 3

    Merry christmas!

Re: Ubunutu and the asus zenbook (UX31)

Hi, I'm on 3.2 RC7 which absolutely has been the most usable version I've run.

But I don't have any drag and drop functions because the trackpad buttons don't work. I however managed to find a method to use drag and drop using gpointing-device-settings where you can setup it to enable locked drags. That does the job. Gnome is unusable with drag and drop. The touchpad however still feels unresponsive and could be much more precise.

    To sum up:

    • No buttons
    • Left and Right tab works out of the box
    • 2 finger scroll - 2 finger right tab
    • Drag and drop enabled in gpointing-device-settings

Re: Ubunutu and the asus zenbook (UX31)

2 huge problems for me still:
    - cat /proc/bus/input/devices doesn't list the touch pad (wich does not work, not even as a mouse).
    - attaching an external vga monitor shows a black screen on both displays. switching to tty1 shows the tty1 on both displays.

    any suggestions?
I had similar issues, I resolved them by doing a complete reinstall of ubuntu and went straigt to RC7. 3.1.5 and RC6 must have done something to kill the mouse.

I forgot to add that I've got the Elantech trackpad

I installed 3.2-rc7 kernel, still don't see touchpad neither in unitys mouse & touchpad nor in gpointing-device-settings. It still works as a mouse same as in rc6.

I have sentelic touchpad, 209 bios and all power/suspend scripts installed from wiki.

Was about to upgrade to 3.2-rc7, but my UX31 does not start anymore. Post boot (bios) does not come up, fan is on max. So I have to send it to service.. Will probably be gone 2-3 weeks before I get it back. ****...

Wow! That sounds nice a nice present indeed... I might try to unwrap it myself

There's a few recent posts regarding touchpads and various degrees of success - I think it would be good if those posters specified which type of touchpad (Elantech/Sentelic) they have

Re: Ubunutu and the asus zenbook (UX31)

Have run the Ubuntu 3.2rc6 without any kernel parameters and VT-d off in BIOS, but just now experienced a crash again.
It has been on for about three days, mostly in suspend-mode.

Going for the rc7 now with the same setup, but I'm not hoping for any better results.. I'm not at all sure what's causing the crashes..

Has anyone experienced a crash with wireless turned off?

EDIT: Also, I've updated the wiki all over with info on USB-Ethernet, kernel params, Sentelic multi touch.

Re: Ubunutu and the asus zenbook (UX31)

I just added a how-to upgrade the kernel in the wiki. Would anyone take a look to check if I got everything right?

Regarding the multitouch scripts provided at https://github.com/saaros/sentelic: I tried to copy the two scripts into /usr/src/linux-headers-3.2.0-030200rc7/drivers/input/mouse, but that did not change anything. Can anyone explain what I need to do in order to make the scripts work?

I am on a Kubuntu 11.10. It tells me that no touchpad is found on every reboot. In system settings->Input devices->Touchpad it says the same.

Thanks for all the good work done so far by a lot of people!
    Best regards,
    Jeppe

I think the script to update the kernel is fine.

The Sentelic driver is C source code, not a script (technically these things are quite different). In order to use them, you must set up your machine to compile the whole linux kernel from source code (specifically Linux's GIT repository). Then copy the files to the source tree, then build a new kernel and install that kernel. This is trivial or non-trivial depending on who is doing it

Update on multitouch with sentelic pad.

    Thanks to https://github.com/wulczer/sentelic/...n-pad-click-v2
To disable tap to click with these drivers this can be used.
    echo -n c > /sys/devices/platform/i8042/serio4/flags
