Re: Ubuntu and the asus zenbook (UX31)

    Hi,

my UX31 made some random hard freeze in the last weeks. I tried to run memtest86 (from grub) and it always freeze or throw memory errors after 5-10 mins. Probably it's just an overheating problem while the memtest86 is running but it doesn't seem like that.

Is it normal? Could you run a memtest on your UX31 without getting error or freeze?

I'm gona be greatfull if someone would try it too.

    Thanks,
    Laszlo

    Hi community.

I have a question regarding sound quality in Ubuntu 12.10 and ux31a. Is it possible to achieve the same sound quality as in Windows 8? if not, how far off?

Someone knows how to fix that ?

I use ubuntu with my zenbook ux31e since the ubuntu 11.10. The wireless has never been so bad.
I can confirm that. I have never had WiFi problems with previous versions. After I installed 13.04 Beta, I can hardly connect to my router, 5 meters away. I hope that will be fixed in the final release, 13.04 would be unusable for me otherwise...

another "me too" post here, WiFi is awful on 13.04. Unless I am literally right next to the router, the connection drops every few minutes and reconnects after about 30 seconds of searching for the AP.

Regarding Wifi issues, you should maybe try to set your access point on b/g Wifi modes. The n mode put me into a lot of troubles. Using only b/g modes helped a lot.

Good advice, thanks. However most of the issues I experience are with WiFi APs that I do not have config access to

    Try this: (disable wifi-n)
    https://help.ubuntu.com/community/As...Prime#Wireless

To make it permanent, make a file like "/etc/modprobe.d/51-disable-6235-11n.conf" and write "options iwlwifi 11n_disable=1" into it.

    Hi,
About the plugg-in plugg-out ac freeze and shutdown, I updates my UX31E with the BIOS 214 and I update the kernel to 3.8.5
    Code:
    $ uname -r
    3.8.5-030805-generic
I am not on ubuntu but on linuxmint 14 KDE version. But I do not think it matters.

Does suspend work for you? Because neither 3.8 nor 3.8.5 work for me… I am still on 3.6.11 which is the most stable kernel for me.

There is no fix. My zenbook does this in Windows 7 and even did it with the stock ASUS install of Windows on it. Its a hardware flaw and will not be fixed. You just have to learn to live with it. The easiest thing to do is close the lid, then remove AC power. This will prevent the shutdown.
