    OMG! just completely shutdown your pc and boot into ubuntu and it should work, if you were in windows and did reboot (not shutdown) and then start ubuntu it will not work! as simple as that.

    I think that's a problem related to FW the one loaded in windows wwill not ork in ubuntu sounds stupid but...

    Question Re: Ubuntu and the asus zenbook (UX31)

    Hi everyone,

    I stopped reading that thread about May, and wow there's plenty of new pieces of info

    Then I tried to search for Ubuntu 12.10 details regarding our beloved Zenbooks but couldn't find anything.
    Did some of you already tried Ubuntu 12.10 (currently in Alpha3 state) ?

    Re: Ubuntu and the asus zenbook (UX31)

    Hi all,

    I'm looking for some help with setting up my new UX31-A.

    I've done a few Ubuntu installations in the past but never a dual boot with Windows and the partitioning is throwing me, it was making mention of hidden partitions and more partitions than I'd dealt with previously.

    It was for this reason that I went with the initial partitions that were suggested during the setup process.

    At the end of the installation there was this error;

    "It was not possible to install the bootloader at the specified location"

    Then three options;
    Choose another location (none were succesful)
    Continue install without bootloader (the selection I chose)
    The last I can't remember but the warning was I may not be able to boot anything if I chose it - so I didn't.

    My next step was to reboot from the LiveCD (bootable USB created using unetbootin in Ubuntu and 12.04) and use Ubuntu to get a bit more info, which is where I got the attached screenshot of my partitions.

    Does this look anything like other users dual boot partition table?

    And where to now? Is it possible to place the bootloader into the partition that says it has the bootloader (sda6 - I think from memory) or is it such a mess that I should start from scratch.

    Thanks in advance for any help you can give me with this.

    I don't have experience with this. I'm surprised by the error message. I hope somebody gives you a better answer, but perhaps this site will help:
    https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WindowsDualBoot
    or maybe this:
    http://www.webtechquery.com/index.ph...-from-live-cd/
    Which I found by googling for "boot livecd install grub2"
    Sorry if you've tried these things.

    Do you know what's on all those partitions? You do seem to have a lot of them (I'm especially bothered by the 3 "unknown" partitions wasting more than 4GB).

    You'll find a thread dedicated to the UX31A & UX21A : http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2005756
    Also the dedicated Wiki page : https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AsusZenbookPrime

    The current thread concerns UX31E & UX21E Zenbooks

    From the UX31A wiki :
    NOTE: Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit is necessary in order to get UEFI dual booting with the stock Windows 7 image.
