Can anyone recommend a large, high res monitor that works on my UX31?

    Thanks

I have the UX31E with Elantech touchpad. Everything works fine, except when my computer goes to sleep, sometimes upon waking up the multitouch is gone (well almost, only the scrolling and tapping... the clickpad with 2-3 fingers still works). I can fix it by logging out and back in. Anyone else experience this?

Happened to me for many different kernels, including 3.2.0.24-25-26-27, 3.3.0, 3.4.0...

Where are you setting these preferences? It's best to set them in a file in /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/. If you're making calls to synclient, your preferences will not be persistent.

For reference, here's a link to my /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/51-zenbook-synaptics.conf.

I'm rolling back. I just had a bunch of scary failed boots, and the Quantic kernel has never successfully resumed from suspend. When work calms down a bit, I may try again, but I need my laptop to work reliably for the next few weeks.
For some reason kernel 3.5 is now working properly, except for the suspend resume issue you already mentionned. Since I was already experiencing thoses issue with the precise kernel I'll stay on 3.5 and check if it solve the wifi issues I has.

Re: Ubuntu and the asus zenbook (UX31)

Kernel 3.5 is the one working best for me as well, are you installing the ones from kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ ?

3.5.0-rc7 has a known suspend/resume issue, but rc6 and 3.5 final should be fine.

I also noticed that while "Transcend SDHC 4GB class 2" SD card works perfectly, "Kingston SDHC 8GB class 10" does not. Even though it works perfectly in my old LG X110 netbook.
Does anyone know if it's possible to upgrade the Card reader firmware or should we try to make a SD Card blacklist?

In http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ there is only quantal available
Is the 3.5 available for precise ? or we can use quantal with 12.04 ?

I have the answer: I tried and it works

    uname -a
    Linux dp-UX21E 3.5.0-030500-generic #201207211835 SMP Sat Jul 21 22:35:55 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Re: Ubuntu and the asus zenbook (UX31)

I run the 3.5 kernel for a week now. So far, apart from the problem at the begining, this kernel does not improve the wifi reception but improve a bit the constant disconnection. Also sometime my unit does not resume properly.

It alo seems to improve the battery life but I don't have any figure to back y point...
