    There is nobody actively working on this, as far as I know. This requires significant changes to the sentelic driver, and the documentation available (in the kernel source) was not updated to include information on the firmware used by these touchpads.

    Ok, I have now bisected between 3.1 and 3.2 rc1 (5200 commits later..) and the first commit that breaks KMS is:

    Code:
    commit dc22ee6fc18ce0f15424e753e8473c306ece95c1
    Author: Adam Jackson <ajax@redhat.com>
    Date:   Fri Oct 14 12:43:50 2011 -0400

        drm/i915/dp: Remove eDP special cases from bandwidth checks

        These were just working around the math being wrong.
    Sadly, I realize that I forgot the charger at work, so I won't be able to do any more work on this during the weekend.

    Re: Ubunutu and the asus zenbook (UX31)

    Hi all,

    I have a issue that I have not seen anybody else describe:

    I have upgraded to kernel 3.1.2 from 3.0 to get my wireless to work okay.

    But in kernel 3.1.2 my touchpad i recognized as:

    I: Bus=0011 Vendor=0002 Product=0001 Version=0063
    N: Name="PS/2 Logitech Wheel Mouse"
    P: Phys=isa0060/serio4/input0
    S: Sysfs=/devices/platform/i8042/serio4/input/input9
    U: Uniq=
    H: Handlers=mouse0 event9
    B: PROP=0
    B: EV=7
    B: KEY=70000 0 0 0 0
    B: REL=103

    And in kernel 3.0 it is:

    I: Bus=0011 Vendor=0002 Product=0001 Version=0000
    N: Name="PS/2 Elantech Touchpad"
    P: Phys=isa0060/serio4/input0
    S: Sysfs=/devices/platform/i8042/serio4/input/input9
    U: Uniq=
    H: Handlers=mouse0 event9
    B: PROP=0
    B: EV=7
    B: KEY=70000 0 0 0 0
    B: REL=3

    My biggest wish right now is just to turn tab-to-click off, until it will work with multitouch...

    When I run the 2 disable echo commands:
    echo -n 0x90 0x80 > /sys/devices/platform/i8042/serio4/setreg
    echo -n c > /sys/devices/platform/i8042/serio4/flags
    Is says "No such file or directory" to both of them.

    the folder looks like this:
    ls -l /sys/devices/platform/i8042/serio4/
    total 0
    -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 4096 2011-11-25 20:47 bind_mode

    Any ideas?

    Lightbulb Re: Ubunutu and the asus zenbook (UX31)

    By the way I've created a simple daemon [1] to disable mouse touch to click function (as described in the forum) while typing. Just needs root privileges.

    Have fun!

    I reverted this patch

    http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kerne...473c306ece95c1

    like
    Code:

    ...
    ...
            }

    	if (!is_edp(intel_dp) &&
    	    (intel_dp_link_required(intel_dp, mode->clock)
    	     > intel_dp_max_data_rate(max_link_clock, max_lanes)))
    		return MODE_CLOCK_HIGH;

    	if (mode->clock < 10000)
    ...
    ...
    And added the
    Code:

    ...
    ...
             if (is_edp(intel_dp)){
             /* okay we failed just pick the highest */
    ...
    ...
    And got the screen working on 3.2-rc3 with GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash i915.modeset=1 i915.i915_enable_rc6=1 pcie_aspm=force"

    According to what I read here and on the Arch Linux Wiki, then Sentelic touchpad is fully supported in kernel 3.2 - maybe that's why nobody is working on it?

    I have only read things - I don't know for sure.
    http://owened.net/ | I use: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, Mythbuntu 10.04 LTS, Solaris 11, Mikrotik 5, Windows 7 64-bit

    Those instructions are for the Sentelic-equipped UX31E's, not the Elantec-equipped ones like yours.

    Not sure why your device has reverted to a plain PS/2 device in kernel 3.2

    Mr Rectangular Fromage: Can you post some links to what you have read? I haven't found anything other that a loose discussion about mapping the Sentelic functions to the Synaptics driver

    Re: Ubunutu and the asus zenbook (UX31)

    gokmengoksel: That's perfect, great job! I will try it out as soon as the kernel bug hunting is over.

    darfe: That's good news! Keith Packard of Intel requires some additional information (https://lkml.org/lkml/2011/11/25/159), which I can't give him since I currently don't have a charger.
    Are you able to supply this to fast-track the progress (to possibly get a fix for rc4)?
    Also, if you have the Sentelic touchpad, can you provide some feedback on how it works in 3.2?

    Hi, thanks for the good work on solving the challenges concerning the ux31. I have updated my kernel to 3.1.1. The default setting for parameter is i915.i915_enable_rc6=0 as you all probably knew, how/where do I change the parameter to i915.i915_enable_rc6=1

    Sorry if this is a lame question, I have tried hard fo figure this out

    I always edit /etc/default/grub and alter the contents of the line that starts with:

    Code:
    GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="blah blah"
    and then

    Code:
    sudo update-grub
