why are you using an outdated rc? you can go up to 3.4.1 and everything works.
problems start from 3.4.2 to lastest kernel

    Compiled custom kernel,
using a modified script based on fenski.pl's script. (removing some uneeded lines such as bluetooth patch, etc)

Re: Ubuntu and the asus zenbook (UX31)

Forgive me if this has been mentioned elsewhere on this thread but I didn't see it. I know there are issues with the wireless speed but has anyone seen issues with the wired Ethernet download speeds?

Every system I have at my house I am getting about 35-40Mb down and 30-35Mb up. Except for my UX31. It is getting the same speed for upload but my download speeds are only about 3-5Mb at best. Is anyone else experiencing the same or have any ideas how to fix it?

    I am running Ubuntu 12.04 w/ kernel 3.2.0-26

Looks like I have the same problem.

I'm on a really fast university connection. My desktop gets 580Mbps down, and 60Mbps up.

My UX21 gets 7.3Mbps down, and 56Mbps up (on both USB 2 and USB 3 sockets).

My dmesg is spammed with the "eth0: asix_rx_fixup() Bad Header Length" messages during my speed-test runs.

This message has been noted in this thread many times, I think.

EDIT This bug seems related, and one comment even claims a fix noted in our wiki.

EDIT 2 I can confirm that the official driver does remove the Bad Header messages, though my speed is not greatly increased (at around 9Mbps down).

Just installed Linux kernel 3.5 rc3 on ubuntu 12.04. I think it is the best solution for the UX31a. Brightness works now, touchpad is working correctly.

The only problem i found so far:
At system startup, you have to wait about a half a minute before you can login. Unlocking the screen (after sleep) gives no problems.

Been using the laptop for a while now with an external monitor through HDMI.
Now when I wanted the laptop on the go, when disconnecting the external... laptop screen never gets back.

At reboot without the hdmi cable plugged in, the laptop fan starts revving up and there's only a blank laptop screen. When pressing fn+f8 it flickers and nothing happens.

With hdmi plugged in the laptop starts up fine, but only with external screen available. Cycling with fn+f8 the external goes into sleep mode and gets back.

    Tried different kernels:
-3.4.4 - Display eDP1 shows as connected in xrandr, and also the display-gui tool

-3.5.0rc5 - Display eDP1 doesn't show up, neither in xrandr or gui tool

    Using ubuntu 12.04

Yeah tried both. USB3 port was a little bit fast but only by maybe 10-15%.
