Problem with touchpad multitouch on HP Pavilion dm4

I have been researching my problem, which is that my touchpad is visible in the mouse settings, but there is no effect when the settings are changed. The trachpad still functions as a mouse, but I cannot disable tap to click, disable while typing, or get any kind of scrolling.

In my research, I found a bug listed on launchpad, but I am not familiar with development to fgure out what I am looking at.
