    Re: Can't connect to wireless after 11.10 upgrade

    Below is a comparison of two commands run from a working version and a non-working version. Like agcjh I have no iwlagn.config file in either of these versions. The 11.10 version is a fresh install on this computer and the 11.04 version is run live from USB on the same system. When I ran these commands I was at a location with only one access point in range and no security on it.

    **** 11.10 ****
    Code:
    $ uname -r
    3.0.0-12-generic

    $ cat /etc/modprobe.d/iwlagn.conf
    cat: /etc/modprobe.d/iwlagn.conf: No such file or directory

    $ iwconfig
    lo        no wireless extensions.

    eth0      no wireless extensions.

    wlan0     IEEE 802.11bgn  ESSID:off/any
              Mode:Managed  Access Point: Not-Associated   Tx-Power=15 dBm
              Retry  long limit:7   RTS thr:off   Fragment thr:off
              Power Management:off
    **** 11.04 ****
    Code:
    $ uname -r
    2.6.38-8-generic

    $ cat /etc/modprobe.d/iwlagn.conf
    cat: /etc/modprobe.d/iwlagn.conf: No such file or directory

    $ iwconfig
    lo        no wireless extensions.

    eth0      no wireless extensions.

    wlan0     IEEE 802.11bgn  ESSID:"welcometodu"
              Mode:Managed  Frequency:2.412 GHz  Access Point: 00:23:EB:62:4C:C0
              Bit Rate=65 Mb/s   Tx-Power=15 dBm
              Retry  long limit:7   RTS thr:off   Fragment thr:off
              Power Management:off
              Link Quality=60/70  Signal level=-50 dBm
              Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
              Tx excessive retries:0  Invalid misc:27   Missed beacon:0
    I will try your more recent suggestion. If you have any other suggestions you would like to show output for from the working versus non-working versions let me know.

    Thank you much for your help

    Running with 2.6.38-8 and running with N speeds 65 Mb/s and with N 802.11 bgn
    What if OP were to download that kernel or 2.6.39 oneiric and install and run 11.10 with.
    http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.39-oneiric/
    EDIT> confirmed with 2.6.38.8 kernel do not use 2.6.39 use below.
    http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.38.8-natty/
    Download:
    all.deb
    headers 64 bit
    image 64 bit

    after download click on them one at a time and will download thru Ubuntu software center.
    Install in that order downloaded.

    If asks for module-init-tools upgrade do the same with 64 bit in lower left of this page in .deb
    https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source...+build/2555500

    Choose that kernel to boot from in 11.10. Does the internet work now in 11.10

    Re: Can't connect to wireless after 11.10 upgrade

    power off didn't help. I will try switching the router if it doesn't mess up the connection for my friends computer (I'm a guest)
    It seems to me that it is an Intel issue and they need to update their drivers. I may just end up switching back to 11.04 for now, and upgrading again after a few new kernels come out.
    If I do change the router speed and it works, then I'll let you know

    It is an Intel issue I do believe and could be in the 3.0 and up kernel with just a few. I have same driver
    with no problems at all. A few of you have the problem.( iwlagn 0000:02:00.0: fail to flush all tx fifo queues)
    Only take a minute or two to run the 2.6.39 kernel and check out if that is the issue, just might be.
    If not of course that is OK, will bow out. Enjoy your Ubuntu. (Let us know if you tried 2.6.38 or 39 kernel.)

    if that does not help change your n speed in your router to b,g speed.
    Thank you
    I also deleted the extra networks in that post
    I also changed the router and no change...

    Re: Can't connect to wireless after 11.10 upgrade

    Hi, you can try what garvinrick4 mentioned it is not a bad idea, but I prefer that he helps with that, I few days ago I helped someone upgrade to the 3.0 kernel, by trying it in virtualbox first and it worked, then after he installed it, it worked a couple of boot ups and then it stopped, and I checked mine and it had stopped also, I think it was just some bug in the 3.0 kernel but I am not sure about that.
    Thank you

    Well, tried 2.6.39 with no luck. Thanks for the input though. This is the first time I've had an issue with Ubuntu that took more than a day to solve so I can't complain.

    Hi, please install wicd then remove network manager completely config files and all, but you must install wicd first.

    Then restart your computer.
    Thank you

    Re: Can't connect to wireless after 11.10 upgrade

    Installed wicd. still won't connect to wireless but now gives the error "connection failed: bad password" and I am 100% sure it is the right one.
    When I log into the router it says that it is WPA2 protected, (TKIP or AES encryption) but in wicd when it lists the connection it says that it is WEP...
