    video files supported with GIMP(w/GAP)

im trying to find out which video files can be imported as layers/frames into GIMP with the GAP addon to eventually be saved as an animated gif.

ive tried AVI but its saying unknown format.

i looked on GIMP's site an see nothing about the video formats supported.

is there particular video codex and containers that it supports, if so which are they?

Re: video files supported with GIMP(w/GAP)

I'm having ALL of those problems!!!

    I installed GAP

Then went to the newly added Gimp menu "Video" > then "Split video into ranges" > Popup "Extract Videorange"

There I uploaded an AVI file thru the "..." button on the popup

    Then comes................NOTHING!

Everything ("From frame"... etc) are all still greyed out and nothing seems to have been uploaded.

    So I need help

    Thanks in advance

It is considered quite rude to bump a thread three times within an hour.

With avidemux, you could write out the frames of an avi to individual graphics. These could then be combined into layers in Gimp.

Excuse me but there's no need to be manipulative and make up stuff. I bumped it ONLY TWICE after 50 minutes have gone and I noticed that the thread was going down without a response

I'll try that as a stop gap measure but the issue at hand still needs to be addressed.

I posting this to find out why Gimp/gap itself isn't working

That is too much and is considered rude. Just for your information.

Oh and I meant 50 minutes ago but TWO HOURS AFTER the previous post.

So it was twice in two hours not three times in one hour.

But if opening new thread with same question every couple of minutes is what's considered "not rude" That's fine by me!

I don't recommend that either, the moderators are bound to notice.

It's suggested that we should wait for 24 hours before bumping. That gives enough time for someone who knows enough about your question to see it and respond. Not everyone knows the answers to all questions, especially specific questions like this one of yours. And this is a worldwide forum, not everyone is in the same time zone. If you are patient, you still may get a specific answer. Or you might try posting in the Multimedia & Video subforum instead of here in General. Or you could ask a mod to move this thread.

[Edit] Oh wait, looking back this is not your thread, you likely won't be able to ask a mod to move it.

    Exactly.

So now you know that FOUR WEEKS have passed without an answer (instead of 24 hours, which I don't mind waiting for.

It's just that I'm skeptical that that would even happen. I think the general assumption here seems to be that all threads that are no longer 'up' are pretty much redundant (either the thread-opener has found the answer to his question or the problem has been solved via other means)
