Had this issue last night and was too tired to post.

Now software-properties-gtk is back to normal.

    hth

P.S. This issue came after doing the sudo sed bit to get the PP repos and after changing to the main server, then software-properties broke.

    Thanks arpanaut.
Is that to replace the "Suite: oneiric" and all the stuff after, or just to paste all that before "Suite: oneiric"?
    Many thanks.

paste in before... leave the rest.

This was an issue back in Maverick testing and was supposed to be fixed
I don't know why it popped up this time around and does not seem to be affecting everyone

Re: Synaptic now locks up the system and USC is very slooooow

    Thanks again, trying it now

I didn't use the sudo sed command, but I changed all oneirics to precises, which amounts to the same thing of course.

    Aha! Fixed again. Thanks!

As my original problems seem to be fixed now (almost) I'll mark the thread as solved.

Re: Synaptic now locks up the system and USC is very slooooow

Yay! Glad to be of service.

I think it had to do with the new Python that came down in the initial updates after changing repos.
I ran software-sources-gtk in a terminal and investigated the errors.
That reminded me of the bug back in Maverick and went searching.

Seems to have worked for two of us now, so maybe it will help others.
