    Dennis Ritchie (1940-2011)

Dennis Ritchie, co-creator of UNIX and C, has died... apparently last Friday, but everyone is posting it today.

My profund admiration for a man who helped to create two major milestones in computing history: UNIX and C.

RIP Dennis Ritchie. He had an immeasurable impact on computing. It's too bad his death won't get the same attention Job's did when Ritchie was far more influential.

True, but let's try to keep Jobs out of this thread.

Amen to that. Pretty much every OS in use today owes its existence to Ritchie's work in some way. RIP Dennis.

Yep, also the 6 most used programming languages are based on C.

Dennis Ritchie, Brian Kernighan and Ken Thompson are, in our world, icons and idols. The modern world has much to thank Dennis for but alas 95% of the population has no idea the scope of his influence on what they take for granted each and every day. RIP Dennis.
