DVD from releases differ too much in size

    Hi
I've downloaded the torrent files for the 11.10 oneiric ocelot DVD releases, both i386 and amd64 and have noticed their size differs a lot

    ubuntu-11.04-dvd-amd64.iso 4.0Gb
    ubuntu-11.04-dvd-i386.iso 3.9Gb

    And latest DVDs are

    ubuntu-11.10-dvd-amd64.iso 1.5Gb
    ubuntu-11.10-dvd-i386.iso 1.5Gb

    - Does any1 know why this difference?
    - Should I wait for another update for this releases?

I usually download these releases so I can install almost everything without needing internet connection

    Thanks a lot in advance

    Hay,

I am not sure. The dvd releases are only for more language packs as I understand it:

    DVD downloads

Don't be confused, even though DVDs can hold far more data than the typical Ubuntu CD, the main benefit of the DVD downloads is to get access to all of the available language packs. Most people will be fine with the standard CD installer. There are fewer download locations for the DVD images and this list is updated less frequently than for the CD images.
So I'm guessing its only because the latest release has not yet been translated as complete (and may never be, since it is not a LTS release)

Switched away from windows XP to Ubuntu 9.04. Never turned around to look back.

    Yes, see Oneiric release notes:
    https://wiki.ubuntu.com/OneiricOcelo...ed_DVD_content
    Revised DVD content

In Ubuntu 11.10 there is now a revised, smaller (in size) DVD based on community feedback over the last few cycles. This new DVD has a more manageable size of 1.5G, and is an extension of our current CD image that includes all the language packs and some other useful applications, such as Inkscape, GIMP, Pitivi, and a more complete LibreOffice suite. All the packages that used to be on the DVD are still available from the archive.
