Are there any difference, if the driver are installed trough Jockey or from the downloaded driver from AMD's support site?

Well, it is hard to say. When you load one and it works, you generally don't load the other one to check for tiny differences.

But, I was having very good experience with the drivers direct from AMD through abour 12.1. Then, I started having trouble running Unity 3D with them. Then someone convinced me to try the ones from the Ubuntu repos, and they did allow me to run Unity 3D. So, I am currently using the ones from the repos with good results. Also, note that my problems running Unity 3D only affected my Precise system, not Oneiric.

    I'm installing Precise.

So far, I've noticed that the default driver works pretty well. Am I losing battery life by using it instead of the Jockey driver?

Would you recommend the default driver, or the AMD driver in the repos or the one from AMD's site?

I really don't know. If you don't care about 3D functionality, the standard open source driver is fine. The proprietary driver from the repository is much easier to install and maintain than the one direct from AMD.

Does the repo driver actually work with Unity from Precise?

Thanks. I'll probably use the repo version on the final release. I'm running a daily build now with the blob version.

In a support case mail to me from AMD, they wrote that:
Please note that Ubuntu 12.04 will be supported with the 8.961 driver.
Exactly what it will mean, I don't know, but it sounds good.
I asked them when it's going to be released. -I probably won't get a answer before after it's out, but I can't but try.

The current driver is 8.95.1 so that means it will be updated.
