The wireless button is "on" but on the right corner the option "enable wireless" is not available (it doesn't appear).

This means, the driver does not have the device ID. Install the latest compat-wireless package:

    Code:
    sudo apt-get install --reinstall linux-headers-$(uname -r) build-essential
    wget http://www.orbit-lab.org/kernel/compat-wireless-2.6/compat-wireless-2.6.tar.bz2
    tar jxvf compat-wireless-2.6.tar.bz2
    cd compat-wireless-20*
    ./scripts/driver-select atheros
    make
    sudo make install
    Reboot and check:

    Code:
    iwconfig
lspci -nnk | grep -iA2 net
    sudo iwlist scan
    rfkill list
    dmesg | grep ath
    modinfo ath9k | egrep '168C|0032'

    OK, several things happened.
    • Running the first set of code, was smooth (no errors)
    • When I restarted kernel 3 didn't boot (I'm running 2.6 now)
    • The second set of code shows promise, see it next.

    Code:
    nrgomez@nelson-HP-Pavilion-g6-U:~$ iwconfig
    lo no wireless extensions.

    eth0 no wireless extensions.
    Code:
    nrgomez@nelson-HP-Pavilion-g6-U:~$ lspci -nnk | grep -iA2 net

The wireless button appear to be on here

Maybe the device is broken? Loading the module by hand?

    Code:
    sudo modprobe ath9k

    In Win7 there is wireless.
Running "sudo modprobe ath9k" appear to do nothing.

    Try this:

take all components for 10 minutes off the current and remove the battery for 30 minutes.
