Re: 11.10 Gnome 3 themes extension

    @ Cecil ....

The theme was set in 11.04 ....... before I upgraded to 11.10
and its kept the settings .......
( guess we have to set it in gNatty then Upgrade at the moment )

When I get back on my main machine I will try to see where it has put things , but it would
be nice if the theme selector was working again as it used to do ....

I am on another computer at the moment running another version of 11.10 ..... so will have a play around in here first to see if I can get it working.

Hey guys, I had this same issue a few weeks back. Read this thread, and all your questions will be answered!

(Basically two solutions: either turn off Nautilus as desktop manager in Gnome Tweak, or remove appmenu-gtk and appmenu-gtk3 packages if you don't use Unity.)

In order to have the tweak tool recognize extra themes put into the theme folder, you have to have the gnome user theme extension working first. From your screenshot, it seems that this extension isn't enabled.

The workaround is to physically remove the /usr/share/gnome-shell/theme folder, and then replace it with the Tron theme folder (which you rename to just "theme")

But the best way would be to get gnome user theme extension up and running!

Yep worked doing it that way ..... cheers fillmont

just make sure the metadata.json file for the extension is 3.0.2
after I upgraded again .... the metadata.json file then wants to read 3.2.0
( this refers to the version of Gnome Shell you are running at the time -
I check this in system monitor .... first page shows information about your system )

cured it for me ..... this is the version I am in and its back to the TRON theme now ....

Seems like when I try anything new it messes up something else, so I'm not sure what to do anymore.
How would I get gnome user theme extension working ?

Glad to hear it worked! The screenshot you have though seems to still have the fake nautilus menu...was that just a linking/picture error?

Honestly, the first time I got any extensions to work was after reading this webupd8 post from a few weeks back. Before that, I had tried, and failed, like, 4 times.

Basically, you have to make sure your gnome 3 is up to date. If you've been doing regular 11.10 upgrades, it should be. You can make sure by going to system tools and checking your gnome info. It should be 3.2

Then sign up with the webupd8 ppa to get access to the extension packages. Once you update and install the ones you want, it's just a matter of restarting gnome shell to get access to the extensions. You use gnome tweak to use them.

After you get user theme extension up and running, add the theme folders for the ones you want to /usr/share/gnome-shell/theme. You don't need to rename anything. Once you plop those in, you should be able to switch easily using gnome tweak.

But really, you should just read the webupd8 post. It explains a fair bit better than I could!

    Good luck!

Well... I put ricotz ppa back in and its working, last time I had ricotz I put some extensions in and it broke, all I had was background and mouse.
Anyway to get the weather up top ?
