networking with my Samsung Galaxy S2

Can some one please tell me is there an app I can get that will allow full network sharing with my ubuntu server so I can watch videos over wifi or even still 3g on my SGS2

I'm interested in doing something similar and from what I've seen if you're looking to go the NFS route (via wifi) you'll need to root your phone and install a kernel module (or use BusyBox).

For streaming video I'm sure there are some kind of DLNA-type apps out there that allow one to do that, but then you have to wonder if you're limited to a certain type of video player.
