The naming scheme has been silly and funny, but not embarrassing (well, not too much). Until now. I didn't mind mentioning that I was running Natty or Oneiric, but this is the end of that. Oh, I'll still use Ubuntu, but I'll never say that I'm running Precise, or even Pangolin.
No big deal, of course. These things don't really matter. Right? Well, let's hope not, although almost every company knows that the name is part of marketing (think of "Vista" or "Lion"). Mark Shuttleworth may be a genius in some ways, but I'm afraid his marketing instincts, at least in this instance, betrayed him.
Then again, it's all free and open-source, right? Let's choose something else, something better, something we can mention without much embarrassment.
quixotic quagga ?

I'd go with Quizzical Quokka.
I was hoping for Perplexed Penguin.
I don't know....

The suggestion that caught my eye was Porangi Packhorse, but that could be Painful.

Never assume that information you find using a search engine is up-to-date.
Ubuntu α (Alpha): Alphanumeric Alfafa (Moth)
Ubuntu β (Beta): The Beta-Lactam Beta (Fish)
But, if I had a say in this, I would drop the adjective+animal_name method completely and go for normal people / stuff names;
"I'm running Ubuntu Johnny on my Tablet! What about you, Mary? Oh how very kind of you to ask, my dear sir! I am using Ubuntu Pancreas - Spoon edition on my smart watch but my Home Server runs on Ubuntu Nails. Just upgraded from Ubuntu Rubber Band".
IMHO it would be much better.
