hmm, ive not had any issues whatsoever with it.
no notification tray spamming,no suspend issues..
No issues im seeing here in the thread at all.

Only issue I have with ubuntu 12.04 is that whenever I go into suspend mode.. my cooling mat stays running. lol
It used to shut down when the computer went into suspend mode,
but since I installed 12.04, I have to unplug the mat every time or it sucks up battery.
Goes into suspend mode and wakes from suspend fine, it just doesnt kill power to the USB ports.
    No probs. with Jupiter though.

    Rasa1111,

Long time no see, my friend hope all is ok with you.

Jupiter is helpless in my case. Sad but true.

Looks like you have more experience with Jupiter than me and it seems a successful one so hope you don't mind to share some thoughts? the overheating in my case is TOO MUCH

    Thanks!

This looks to be very useful. I just got my hands on a laptop, so I'm glad to know about it. Thanks.

I installed Jupiter on my Acer-1410, 4 gig ram, Ubuntu 12.04 with classic desktop. Laptop seems still functional, Jupiter seems to have installed correctly. Having read many Jupiter-related web pages, I still don't know the extent to which Jupiter enacts some effects automatically. Or, must I tweak choices offered by Jupiter? I have yet to find a web page that presents a Jupiter howto in some detail (other than install).

Jupiter on its own will not solve your temperature issues which stems from many factors including BIOS, hardware design and of course the distro. What it does and does well is tune the system for maximum battery life when its on battery alongwith providing an easier interface to control your desktop when you have secondary monitors attached. Since I give many lectures and presentations as well as seminars, that feature alone is well worth the install of Jupiter. Also if you have a Intel GPU laptop, there is no control center like NVIDIA or ATI so Jupiter enhances that aspect as well. I do clean my fans by blowing compressed air on regular basis for all three of my laptops and one is a seven year old Vaio which has never ever needed servicing except for battery change. I never use my laptops without laptop cooler, that alone has made these laptops perform well and last long.

Re: Jupiter Applet is Great! What a difference!!!

I just wanted to add to the praise of this applet. My Dell Inspiron E1505 went from about 24-28W under normal light use (browsing the internet, using terminals, etc.) to about 17-20W under the same conditions. That's a huge change. The battery life is now close to what I get on Windows 7, though still probably not quite as good.

One thing that is puzzling to me is that, if Jupiter makes these changes to settings that are already present in the kernel and device drivers, why don't most of the various distros focus on providing such power saving options out of the box? It seems like that could possibly be even more effective since the distros include a known kernel version and default drivers.

Anyway, thanks a lot for making Linux much more usable on a laptop!
