To fix this, please see this troubleshooting guide:

It includes this guide to enable the Cube, if that's what you tried to do:

The idea of creating Terminal Launcher didn't worked, beacause, it all started with terminal's problem only and the second thing that of Ctrl+Alt+F1 is also not working, because i am unable to login.
Upon successful login, it says "Welcome to Ubuntu...." and in just the next line, asks for login again.

Well, you don't necessarily have to use the terminal for all that. Just create a launcher for "ccsm", as also described there, then follow that particular section.

I think that's caused by the same issue that makes your terminal not work.

When you get to the point where you need to relogin, create a launcher for the command:
    Code:
    gnome-session-save --logout
    ...and launch those.

    - Copy the content of "/etc/skel" into the top-level of your home directory.

    - Run this command via the Alt+F2 dialog:
    Code:
    gconftool-2 --recursive-unset /apps/gnome-terminal
    Greetings.
    No, It didn't worked.

So, you have at least fixed your desktop by now?
Sorry, man, but I don't see you mentioning that.

As for your initial, and apparently only remaining, issue; before we try reinstalling several related packages, check if it's present in a new, fresh user account, too.

    Terminal Working now..
Previously, I changed the shell of current user to "/bin/false"
after which terminal started behaving like that, now upon changing it back to "/bin/sh", its working alright.

Ahh, one setting that isn't included in the locations I already took into account, noted!

Just curious, what made you think it's a good idea to do so, changing the shell to a non-existing value?
Btw., I have "/bin/bash" set there, and I didn't touch that since installation; nor am I planning to do it now, obviously.

Well, at least you eventually remembered having changed that.
I'm guessing that you got it when you went about trying the new user thing?

I guess I'd keep those setting in mind if I'd try that.

Btw., have you got your desktop working again, too?
