    Re: Just started

My advice is to go to the ubuntu home page www.ubuntu.com and read about downloading and installing linux. Remember that linux is not windows and will not work or act as windows does. Just go slow and have fun.

Hi zircon_fox and welcome. You have a couple of great post to your question from fantastic people. I was new to this myself and took it upon myself to learn and still had to ask for help here and there. I bought myself a USB HD so I could do a full HD backup with Clonezilla so I can play without loosing all my stuff.

    zircon_fox,

    Welcome aboard!

Here are some resources for you:

This should help familiarize you with Ubuntu: https://ubuntugenius.wordpress.com/f...p-for-newbies/

Ubuntu Manual-10.10:http://ubuntu-manual.org/ This is for 10.10, but there is a lot of information relevant to 11.04 in it.

Also, I would suggest this sticky by ugm6hr: http://ubuntuforums.org/s howthread.php?t=801404 . The links to Psychocats Ubuntu Guide: http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/ and Free Ubuntu Pocket Guide by Keir Thomas: http://www.ubuntupocketguide.com/index_main.html may be of particular note, but the entire sticky is full of a lot of good information.

    Also: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=790485 (Newbie 101) and:

    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=714338 (Newbie Terminal Intro)/
    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=73885 (Terminal for Beginners)

    http://www.linuxcommand.org/ (Terminal Commands)

    Media howto: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=766683

To add the Ubuntu-Google search engine for Firefox: http://www.ubuntu-search.org/

And, of course, these forums. Feel free to ask any questions you may have; someone here should be able to help you.
